The tithe is a commandment from the old covenant. It comes from the law given by Moses to the people of Israel. This law is now replaced by a higher covenant. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. In Moses'days, polygamy was accepted : a man could have several women. It was not God 's perfect plan, because Christ has only one bride. The law allowed polygamy for Christ had not come yet to set up the better and perfect covenant. Today the teaching of Jesus and the apostles about marriage and adultery shows that polygamy is an abomination for God. This is why we are under another law.

It is the same for the tithe, as for all the ordinances of the law. They are included in a higher law. Also in time past, the law said : You will give ten per cent of your incomes to the Lord. Today, we are no more under the law, there is no more obligation. Indeed where the Spirit is, there is freedom. I would not give ten per cent to the Lord by obligation, but I will freely give one hundred per cent to the Lord. One hundred per cent of my money, my time, my energy, my thoughts, my emotions, my will, my body, my spirit.

So we can come back to God's first goal which precedes Moses's law, which is : « Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. » (Deuteronomy 6:5). It is relevant that Jesus Himself goes along with Moses's law when He says : « Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength » And : « Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. » (Mark 12:30,31)

Jesus quotes the law given by Moses to return to a higher law by his preeminence and his anteriority.

All is dedicated to the Lord, all my money as well as all my life.

In the same way,  Paul, in Galatians, says to them : "After beginning with the Spirit, will you stay under the law ? You observe days, and months, and times, and years... ". It is clear that for us, Christians of the new covenant, we don't have to observe the day of the Sabbath any more. We do not observe either Sunday, as we live every day in the rest of God.
